Patricia Moore Howard
February 19, 1930 - June 28, 2014
Patricia M. Howard also known as Mom, Pat, Patty, Sis, Dawing, Darling, and Dar, joined her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Lonnie T. Howard (US Army Ret), and her son Michael in death at Candler Hospital on June 28, 2014 following a period of declining health. Born in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone in 1930, and daughter of Colonel William T. Moore Sr. (US Army Ret) and Mary Corish Moore, she is survived by her brother William T. (Mickey) Moore Jr. (Jean) and seven of her eight children: Catherine (Katie) Howard Franch (Bill), Colonel John C. Howard (US Army Ret) (Amy), Thomas A. Howard (Mary), James R. Howard, Lieutenant Colonel Lonnie P. (Rick) Howard, Nancy E. Howard, and Mary H. Tallman (Matthew); seventeen grandchildren: Scott, Jared, Evan, Billy, Ellen, Carol, William, Julia, Alex, Brittany, Mary Catherine, Erica, Christine, Elizabeth, Caroline, Sarah, and John; and two great grandchildren: Emma and Ella.
An Army brat as a child and an Army wife, Pat lived a very transitory life, many years of which were spent overseas, until resettling in Savannah following Lonnie's retirement from the US Army. Pat spent many years growing up here while her father was fighting overseas during World War II and the Korean War.
Pat was a devout member of Blessed Sacrament Church, having been a member of the congregation for more than 35 years. She was a 3rd generation graduate of Saint Vincent's Academy and will be remembered for her decades as a member of their Alumni Choir. She graduated from George Washington University, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Pat is also known for her volunteer service with special needs children and adults, in particular the ARC and the Savannah AMBUCS Exceptional Bowling League serving as President, Secretary/Treasurer, and Scorekeeper. She was an ardent, passionate advocate for special needs children including her own child.
Known for her love of family, her hallmarks were DARLING: Devoted, Adoring, Radiant, Loving, Intelligent, Never quits, and Great wife, mother, and grandmother.
A rosary service at 6:00 p.m. followed by a visitation from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Fox & Weeks Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, 2014 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Father Brett A. Brannen officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mickey Moore, John Howard, Thomas Howard, James Howard, Rick Howard, Bill Franch, Matthew Tallman, and Mike Viers. Interment will follow at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Marietta National Cemetery, 500 Washington Ave NE, Marietta, GA 30060.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Coastal Center for Developmental Services, 1249 Eisenhower Drive, Savannah, GA 31416.
